At The Farm, we don’t rely on bland manufacturer stock photos - we physically photograph one of each model to show a better representation of the product. Some minor details like wood grain and color finish can, and may vary slightly from the pictures below.
Rest assured, just like on all of our serialized products each instrument goes through a multi-point inspection, followed by a set-up process by our in-house tech staff.
Played with an old time style technique, the Goodtime Artisan Americana is reminiscent of banjos from a period when larger rims were more prevalent which makes the 12” a great setup for playing old time music. A traditional 11” banjo with a frosted top head has a far brighter sound and will “cut” more. Since the combination of the Grand 12” rim and the Renaissance head makes for a wonderfully laid back sound in comparison, the Americana lends itself perfectly for musicians looking to use the banjo to back up a vocalist or another instrument, instead of playing the a lead instrument role.
The Goodtime Artisan Americana features a 12” rim, which gives the banjo a stronger bass response and a much warmer tone. The fullness and warmth of the larger rim is further enhanced by the addition of a 12” Renaissance head which beautifully complements the banjo both visually and sonically. This Artisan version of the Goodtime Americana features a rich brown stain, planetary banjo tuners, and the Midnight Maple fretboard.
In addition, this Goodtime Artisan Americana has a Scooped Neck for old-time frailing and clawhammer styles. This is really only done on 5 string banjos that are meant for clawhammer playing. The closer to the bridge you play, the brighter the tone will be. As you move your picking hand further from the bridge, your banjo's tone becomes warmer and darker. Many clawhammer players prefer this darker tone and play above the fretboard. By not having the frets in the way and the fretboard being scooped down, it makes it easier for clawhammer players to play above the fretboard.
