The TS9DX is Ibanez’s “Turbo” version of the classic Tube Screamer. It has the same core overdrive circuit as a TS9, but with a 4-way mode knob that lets you switch between: TS9 (classic), +, Hot, and Turbo. These extra modes give you more tonal variety — more gain, more low end, grittier or crunchier tones depending on the setting.
When Keeley (Robert Keeley / Keeley Electronics) mods this pedal, you get a “Flexi-4x2” upgrade (sometimes just called a “Keeley mod”). The mod improves things like clarity, headroom, and fidelity, making the pedal more “boutique-like.”
Specifically, Keeley’s mod includes:

Upgraded input/output buffering for a cleaner signal.

True bypass switching (so when it’s off, your signal path is as clean as possible).

Higher-quality components like metal-film resistors and better capacitors. A 3-way clipping switch (in addition to the existing 4 modes) to change how the distortion is produced.An upgraded LED so it’s easier to see when the pedal is engaged.
In practice, the Keeley-modded TS9DX gives you a much more dynamic and versatile overdrive: you can dial in everything from subtle grit to higher-gain drive, but with better clarity and less muddiness than a stock Tube Screamer. Many players like it because it can act like a “tube-amp-in-a-box” type of overdrive.
